The Open Data Portal of Serbia has achieved one of the highest scores in the European Metadata Quality Assurance (MQA) assessment, conducted through the data.europa.eu platform.
According to the latest evaluation, the portal scored 6.03 out of a maximum of 7.5 points, placing it in the highest rating category, “Excellent”.
The MQA framework evaluates more than 200 data catalogs across Europe, including national open data portals, EU institutions, agencies, and thematic platforms. In this highly competitive environment, Serbia’s Open Data Portal ranked 9th overall.
When only national open data portals are considered, Serbia ranks third in Europe. Only Italy and Albania achieved higher scores. The result reflects continuous efforts to improve the quality of the portal and align it with European recommendations. Particularly strong performance was achieved in dataset descriptions, keywords, resource availability, and licensing.
The assessment measures compliance with European metadata standards, the quality of dataset descriptions, data availability, reuse licensing, and machine readability. These factors play a key role in making open data easier to find, access, and reuse.
This achievement confirms that Serbia is successfully implementing European best practices in open data management. It also demonstrates that investments in portal development and metadata quality are delivering measurable results and increasing Serbia’s visibility within the European open data ecosystem.
The Office for Information Technologies and eGovernment will continue to enhance the quality and accessibility of data, with the goal of maintaining the Open Data Portal of Serbia among Europe’s leading national open data portals.
