Belgrade, February 5, 2025 – A meeting of the Open Data Working Group was held today at the Palace of Serbia, bringing together representatives of state institutions to analyze past results, define further activities, and determine key directions for the development of open data in Serbia.
The meeting was opened by Dr. Mihailo Jovanović, Director of the Office for IT and eGovernment, who emphasized the importance of publishing and using high-value data, noting that it plays a key role in Serbia’s digital transformation. “Our goal is for open data to become part of everyday practice in institutions, as it enables more efficient decision-making, greater transparency, and stimulates innovation,” Jovanović stated.
During the meeting, the group’s achievements were reviewed, along with Serbia’s progress in the “Open Data Maturity Report.” In 2024, Serbia ranked 18th out of 35 countries, reaching an advanced level in open data development. This represents a significant improvement compared to previous years – in 2022, Serbia ranked 27th, and in 2023, 25th.
A special focus of the meeting was on upcoming amendments to open data regulations, aimed at improving data management processes, including the obligation to develop annual plans and define high-value datasets.
The session concluded with presentations of best practices in the use of artificial intelligence and open data. Future activities were also announced, such as new training programs for civil servants and the Open Data Guide, which will facilitate the practical application of open data.
The activities of the Working Group are supported by the “Open Data for Open Societies” project, implemented by the Office for IT and eGovernment and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), with the support of the United Kingdom.
