Open data and its role in the digitalisation of public administration were the focus of Radio Belgrade’s “Jutro je” morning show on 14th October 2026. Andreja Gluščević, Coordinator for Data Standardisation and Open Data at the Office for IT and eGovernment, spoke about the importance of accessible, high-quality data, Serbia’s progress in this area, and the results achieved by the Serbian Open Data Portal.
A particular focus of the discussion was the Serbian Open Data Portal’s performance in the European Metadata Quality Assurance (MQA) assessment conducted through data.europa.eu. According to the latest weekly update, carried out on 11th October 2026, Serbia ranked eighth among more than 200 European data catalogues, with a score of 6.2 out of a possible 7.5.
The discussion also highlighted the broader importance of high-quality, accessible data for the development of eGovernment. Publishing data alone is not enough to ensure its effective use. It is important for data to be well described, accessible, machine-readable and clearly licensed for reuse.
High ranking in the European MQA assessment reflects the work carried out so far to strengthen the national open data ecosystem. At the same time, it highlights the importance of continuously improving standards and metadata quality, as well as strengthening cooperation with institutions that publish their data on the Portal.
The discussion also covered examples of datasets available on the Portal, as well as examples of their reuse. The importance of this field was highlighted, from its initial development to its future potential.
The continued development of open data remains an important part of the digitalisation of public administration. One of the key objectives is to make public sector data more accessible, understandable and reusable for citizens and businesses, as well as for the research and professional communities.
